8th Advent Post–Scorpio Time in 2011 (23 Oct – 21 Nov)

Today’s post is about 23 October to 21 November, 2011. This is the time the Sun will be in Scorpio next year.  This post explains a bit about what will be happening then, and is good for every one, not just folks born under the sign of Scorpio.

Scorpio is one of the most intense signs of the Zodiac.  Fixed water, it’s a sign of deep emotions—passions, really. Sometimes obsessions. Scorpio is ruled by Pluto, god of the Underworld. Just as Jupiter is the king of the Heavens, his brother Pluto rules the Underworld and deals with dark subjects: power, sexuality, corruption, and transformation. Scorpio energy can be evolutionary and transforming; it can also be destructive and manipulative.  Either way, it’s intense.  And this is an intense time of year. The Winter is coming (in the Northern hemisphere), the knowledge of death as part of the cycle of life is clear.

What’s happening in 2011 when our Sun is in Scorpio? The Sun will enter Scorpio on 23 October, and on 26 October there will be a New Moon in Scorpio. This begins the monthly cycle of the Moon with the intensity of Scorpio energy. It’s a good time to start a project that needs to dig deep, research, or find answers to issues that are usually hidden away. If you’re an investigative journalist, this could be a good time to start in on a new story.

On 20 October, Jupiter in Taurus will have a happy conversation with Pluto in Capricorn. This is a marvelous time for this trine (positive alignment) to happen, because Pluto rules Scorpio. When Jupiter and Pluto are on friendly terms, good things happen. Jupiter likes to have a high view of things, and doesn’t really want to deal with the nasty details of real life. But with Pluto in the picture, Jupiter is more realistic. Together they can see root causes of problems and have the vision to find solutions. Jupiter can help Pluto lighten up a bit. The god of the Underworld deserves a break from his job of clearing the way for new growth by burning down the old, weakened forest. The other part of his job is to help transformation, to bring power forward where it needs to be. With Jupiter patting him on the back and smiling, Pluto can enjoy his work of deep transformation.

On the 2nd of November, Venus will enter Sagittarius (Jupiter’s home sign). She likes being in the sign of travel and justice, of education and faith. Mercury joins her there on the same day, and the two of them chatting away so happily will make this month in 2011 much lighter than it might otherwise be. One week later Neptune stations direct in Aquarius. Neptune can be the bringer of fog and confusion, but it can also be the planet of connection to inspiration and creativity.  We’ll feel this change of direction, for sure, especially as there’ll be a Full Moon in Taurus the very next day.  Neptune in Aquarius can be inspirational ideas that solve humanity’s problems, and the magic of a Taurus Full Moon can ensure that those ideas are grounded and practical. Keep your ears open for news of inventions and new ways of solving old problems.

On the same day as the Full Moon, 10 November, Chiron will station direct in Pisces and Mars will enter Virgo. The Wounded Healer and the god of Will both moving on a Full Moon day during the Scorpio time—whew! This is one intense day! Chiron moving forward allows us to move forward from painful past episodes. We can understand, forgive, and have compassion, not only for those who have wronged us, but also for anyone who has undergone the same kind of pain. It’s a marvelous time to delve deep into our hearts and find the way to walk the highest path. Mars in Virgo will help us get tons of stuff done, as his energy has focus on detail and perfection. His aggression and frustrations can be more tempered in Virgo, which is good, because we don’t want an angry Mars during Scorpio time.

The whole next week and a half will be quiet; after that 10th day of November, we could use some time to process all the energies.

Scorpio time in 2011, from 23 October to 21 November will be lighter than in other years, with one huge day right in the middle of the period. Enjoy the middle of the season, and try not to get too rigid about anything emotional.

People have asked about the Christmas card in this post. I designed and created this set of Christmas cards. The large, round ornament is a NASA picture of the planet that rules the sign (this is Pluto, because Pluto rules Scorpio. Pluto is so far away that even the Hubble telescope can only get the vaguest of images). The smaller ornament on the right is the glyph (letter) that represents the sign in astrological charts (this one is the glyph that looks like the tail of a scorpion). The smaller ornament on the left is a representation of the major symbol of the sign, usually taken from a map of the constellation. (This one is from a painting of zodiac images, with the scorpion pictured.)

hey what if i want to have an insight of the whole year…particularly abt my career and relationships…?

You can look at your own personal transits for the year, and you can focus on your career and relationship areas. For this you need to know a bit about reading your own chart. If you do, then look at these things:

        * Career: see what sign is on the cusp of your 10th house and your 6th house. These will give you a bit of the flavor of your vocation–your calling in life–and your daily work respectively. Knowing the traits of those Zodiac signs gives you insight into your own career and work paths. Look to see where the rulers of those houses are now. Also see what planets reside in these houses in your natal chart, then look at where those planets are now.

        * Relationships: see what sign is on the cusp of your 7th house (others/relationships) and 1st house (you). See where the rulers of those houses are currently. Look at planets in those houses, and what other planets they aspect. See where those planets are currently transiting. You can extend this research to the 8th house of marriage and shared resources as well.

        * Progressed Sun and Moon: secondary progressions for your Sun and Moon can give you a bit of the “background theme” for what your year is going to look like.
