3rd Advent Post–Gemini in 2011 (21 May – 20 June)

This is a post about what will be happening in 2011 when the Sun will be in Gemini (21 May – 20 June). It’s for everyone, not just those folks born under the sign of Taurus.

Before I get into the Gemini stuff for today, let me clarify what I’m doing here. For the next 10 days, I’ll be writing about a particular Zodiac sign. What am I writing about it? I’m telling you what will be happening during the time the Sun is in that sign next year. So when I write about Gemini, I’m writing about what will happen between 21 May and 20 June, 2011. This is not just for Geminis. This is for everybody to know what’s happening next year.  Tomorrow I’ll write about Cancer time, which will be from 21 June to 23 July, 2011, etc.

Okay, on to Gemini, our Mercury-ruled, fast-talking, flitting butterfly of mid-Spring sign. Gemini energy is upfull, bright, and fun. Where Taurus was slow and deliberate, Gemini is quick and anything but. Let’s just go there, see what happens, then move on. Gemini is the sign of the twins, and much of the energy of Gemini has to do with opposites on the same axis (such as needing lots of social time but also spending time alone, etc).

Gemini Christmas Card

A couple of weeks into Gemini, 2011, on 1 June, we have a New Moon Solar Eclipse in Gemini.  A New Moon in Gemini can bring you awareness of your “other half,” of parts of your psyche that you don’t often recognize. Maybe that awareness comes through communication, or through taking a short trip, or even meeting someone online—all of Mercury’s domain is fair game. But with an eclipse we’re usually dealing with inner voices. So you may have conversations with yourself about who you are and where you’re going. Eclipses come in a series, and this series goes all the way back to 21 December 2010 (next week when I’m writing this post). So think about what happened in the Winter and see if the light/darkness of this eclipse relates at all to that time.

Mercury enters his home sign on Gemini on 2 June 2011, and the very next day Neptune stations retrograde in Pisces. Neptune (seems to) turn backward about once a year, and it stays that way for about 5 months or so.  This can be a very creative time, if you set yourself up to allow imagination and intuition to take over from logic and rationality. But watch out for overdoing the consciousness altering substances; Neptune rules drugs and retrograde times can seem to need connection to the foggy world on high rather than the bounded world of daily life. Even daydreaming can go overboard. But if you can set aside time and give yourself the tools, this is a marvelous time to be creative.

On 4 June, 2011, Jupiter will enter Taurus. Jupiter is the god of fortune and jolly fun, so having him in Taurus (an earthy, practical sign) can mean a bit of luck for us all. Maybe financial problems will ease a bit. And maybe one of those inventions from back in the Aries month might start to work to heal our mother Earth.

Wow, still in the first week of June, 2011, and there’s more to come. Chiron, the asteroid who represents the Wounded Healer, and the knowledge that all of life includes suffering, stations retrograde in Pisces on 8 June. Chiron slowing down and turning backward often manifests as a time when we go over old incidents from our past. We may relive the pain of them, but now that we have the distance that time brings us, we can forgive and move on.  On this same day, Jupiter in Taurus smiles and waves at Neptune in Pisces, making for a nice time of people thinking about others more than themselves.  On 9 June, 2011, Venus enters Gemini, and it’s time to party. All kinds of social gatherings and get-togethers are in fashion when Venus is in Gemini, and you’ll more than likely see the hosts of the parties flitting from one person to another the whole time, making everyone feel happy and light.

We get a few days with no major astrological events and then on 12 June, 2011, Saturn stations direct in Libra. When Saturn is retrograde, limits and obstacles can appear, and when those happen in Libra, it can mean agreements and compromises get stalled. The end of that retrograde, when Saturn stops and turns to move forward on 12 June, can signal a time when negotiations finally start to work.  Authorities use their power to set up structure and organization, and things in general start to move forward again.  This could be a very positive time, so lets pay close attention and do our best to be diplomatic, and come from a sense of equality.

Later that week, on 15 June, we have a Full Moon Lunar eclipse in Sagittarius, part of the series of Gemini-Sagittarius eclipses. Lunar eclipses can bring sudden emotional upheaval, as darkness and then light shines on our feelings. In Sagittarius, its our optimism and vision that gets jolted, so keep an eye out for how you feel in the middle of June, and see what changes your feelings go through at that time. Two days later, on 16 June, 2011, Mercury enters Cancer, where he wants to talk about feelings. Mercury is quick thinking and light-footed, and the depth of Cancerian feelings aren’t his normal realm. While Mercury is in Cancer, talking about feelings, or realizing that talking can produce feelings, is important.

The day before the Sun leaves Gemini, Mars comes into this sign. This can go a number of different ways. Mars likes to move, to get things done. Gemini energy is flitting, moving, but not really doing as much as checking in and chatting. If channeled well, Mars transits through Gemini can be intensely social times, when networking and making connections are very successful. But Mars in Gemini can also be a time of arguments and using words as weapons. So watch your communication for the next few weeks.

Wow, there sure is a lot going on during Gemini 2011!

People have asked about the Christmas card in this post. I designed and created this set of Christmas cards. The large, round ornament is a NASA picture of the planet that rules the sign (this is Mercury, because Mercury rules Gemini). The smaller ornament on the right is the glyph (letter) that represents the sign in astrological charts (this one is the glyph that looks like two identical symbols or twins). The smaller ornament on the left is a representation of the major symbol of the sign, usually taken from a map of the constellation. (This one is from an ancient star map of Gemini, with the twins pictured.)

Hello. I am just a bit curious about this lunar eclipse and it falling on my birthday (well here in Australia), and I was wondering if you may be able to help me? My sun, moon and chiron are in gemini, mars and mercury are in cancer, venus in taurus, jupiter in aquarius, saturn and pluto in scorpio, uranus in sagittarius, neptune in capricorn and my rising is aquarius. Looking at you post it seems it will be a busy time and I was just wondering if you have any idea what I should expect?

Thank you for your question, Alice. I don’t usually work on people’s charts in the blog, but I will this time, as your question brings up the busy planetary energies that will be affecting us all. If you’d like a reading, please contact me directly at renee@emf.net. I do Skype readings, so us living across the world from each other doens’t prevent the call, just makes one of us have to get up in the middle of the night. :->

This coming June will be a busy time for everyone. In the weeks leading up to Alice’s birthday in mid-June, both Neptune and Chiron station retrograde, Saturn stations direct, Jupiter enters Taurus, and Mercury zooms into Gemini. Mercury will trigger the opposition in Alice’s personal chart of the Gemini Sagittarius energies, as it passes by the placements of her Chiron, her Sun and Moon, and opposes her Uranus. Since Chiron will be stationing retrograde at that time, she may feel that push-pull quite a bit, I’d think. That opposition can be about big picture versus details, about long-range vision versus quick stops here and there in our thinking. With the Full Moon Lunar eclipse happening in that Gemini-Sagittarius axis, we’ll all be involved with our feelings and emotions. We may be thinking quite a bit about our feelings, and feel some new awareness about our own thinking patterns. Since this eclipse is shaking up Alice’s own Sun and Moon, and possibly touching her Uranus (can’t know without exact degrees), she might get a double dose of this. Jupiter will be moving into Taurus, grounding our efforts, and maybe even making them pleasurable. Alice’s Venus lives in Taurus, so again, she gets a double dose of that energy. When Mercury leaves Gemini to visit Cancer on the 16th of June, we may squirm a bit as Mercury doesn’t usually like the deep, emotional waters of Cancer’s realm. Since Alice’s own Mercury and Mars live in Cancer, this Mercury transit could giver her more energy to work and talk about all she’s been going through. When Mars enters Gemini the third week of June, we’ll all get a jolt of energy and volition to our thinking. For some of us this may feel a bit hyperactive, but I think for Alice it will bring the ability to work to synthesize the ideas that Mercury’s traveling through her Sun’s sign churned up.
